Abdominoplasty (a.k.a. tummy tuck) is a significant surgical procedure and the recovery period often includes soreness and tightness in the abdominal area. We want all of our clients whether you live in the Beverly Hills area or not to experience as little discomfort as possible. Here are few tips we’ve put together to help you navigate smoothly through the post-tummy tuck period.
Keep yourself in a flexed position to minimize tension on the incision sites by to bending at the hips (waist) in order to reduce tension on the newly tightened skin.
A recliner chair is perfect for this purpose but a pillow beneath your knees and several at the head of the bed will work well also.
After about one week start to gradually stand up straight a little every day until you’re able to do so whenever you stand. Do not push it though. If you feel any pain stop immediately and call our Beverly Hills plastic surgery office.
Increase physical activity gradually as tolerated.
Avoid sexual activity for 6 weeks after surgery.
Keep moving though. Walk around the house, then the block, etc… to keep from getting blood clots. You can also wiggle your toes and move your ankles in circles in bed every hour if your still too sore to walk around much
No strenuous exercise, bending, lifting, baths, swimming, sun exposure, smoking, alcohol or sports for about 6 weeks following surgery. Light activity is usually comfortable in 10-20 days but sports will be more comfortable after 6 weeks. Everyone is a little different so discuss this with us in your post-op visits.
Many of the clients we see at our Beverly Hills office are able to return to work and daily activities within about two weeks of surgery. However, don’t be discouraged if the softening of the surgical scars, return of normal sensation, and loosening of the tight sensation takes another few months. Abdominoplasty recovery can be slow in some cases but we will be here with you every step of the way.
