Ethnic Rhinoplasty in Los Angeles | Beverly Hills

Ethnic cultures often have certain characteristics to their noses, both in their outer appearance and internal structures. For this reason, it is best to address the noses of various ethnic cultures such as African Americans, Hispanics, Asians, and Mediterranean’s individually. “Cookie cutter" approaches to rhinoplasty rarely work well, and this is especially the case with ethnic rhinoplasty. Dr. Hovsepian, experienced in ethnic nose surgery (rhinoplasty), individualizes nose procedures helping numerous patients achieve an aesthetically balanced and natural facial appearance.

There are many examples of how this individualized approach offers the best outcome in ethnic
rhinoplasty. For instance, many people of Asian, African, and Latin descent have noses with wide
bases and broad tips. They often also have thick skin at the tip of the nose, which gives the tip a
rounded or “bulbous" appearance. Dr. Hovsepian understands the importance of preserving your
ethnic characteristics when performing rhinoplasty and works to improve both the appearance and the
breathing function of the nose. He is experienced and well-suited to provide optimal results in ethnic
rhinoplasty.

Dr. Hovsepian uses his artistic talent and surgical skills to create a pleasantly balanced facial
appearance. He recognizes the importance of minimally-invasive techniques, emphasizes the
importance of a comfortable and caring patient experience with a rapid healing process. Learn more

Ethnic Nose Surgery (Ethnic Rhinoplasty) can:

  • Reduce or enhance the prominence of the nasal bridge
  • Redefine nasal shape and length
  • Create a balanced and aesthetically pleasing facial appearance
  • Make you feel good about the way you look
  • A self-confidence builder

Mediterranean Rhinoplasty

Mediterranean noses may have a prominent hump combined with a tip that is oriented downward.
Goals concerning reduction of this hump are largely personal and vary from patient to patient. You
may want to reduce the hump slightly, maintaining more of the ethnic characteristics of the nose or
eliminate it all together, producing a straight profile.

Hispanic Rhinoplasty

Most Hispanic rhinoplasty patients can be classified in one of the following three types of Hispanic
noses; Type I (Castilian) includes a high bridge and normal tip projection, Type II has a low radix,
normal bridge, and an under-projecting tip, and Type III is made up of a broad base, wide tip and
very thick skin (the true Mestizo nose). An in-depth knowledge of each Hispanic nose classification is
very important because the treatment for each type is radically different. By providing structure and
support, Dr. Hovsepian is able to provide meaningful definition while making the nose more refined
and still maintaining its ethnic appearance.

Asian Rhinoplasty

Most Asian rhinoplasty patients want to build up the bridge and tip of the nose. Dr. Hovsepian uses a
soft material to augment the dorsum surgically. Some patients also need to have their nostrils tapered
to avoid a "flared" look. Nostril reduction often produce pleasant results.

African American Rhinoplasty

African American patients frequently want to improve the shape and definition of their nose. The nose
may appear to have a low or broad bridge, the tip may seem wide and undefined, and the nostrils
may or may not be a concern. In profile, the bridge and tip may be underdeveloped. Contemporary
rhinoplasty for African American patients involves augmenting the bridge to define the appearance
and create better facial balance.

Planning Your Procedure

Dr. Hovsepian’s keen eye for beauty will identify facial asymmetry in patients seeking ethnic
rhinoplasty. He will listen to your aesthetic desires and needs, will evaluate the unique ethnic shape
and structure of your nose in detail, review your unique anatomy, and will provide you with
individualized options in your rhinoplasty consultation.

Each patient has different reasons for considering nose surgery (rhinoplasty), a few of Dr. Hovsepian’s most popular ethnic nose procedures aim to:

  • Correct a Prominent Nasal Hump: Excess amounts of bone and cartilage that contribute to a "humped" or "hooked" nose will be reduced, resulting in a straighter and more pleasing nose shape.
  • Enhance Nasal Contour: To correct a "bulbous" or a poorly shaped nose, small careful adjustments to the soft tissue and cartilage at the nasal tip can be performed.
  • Elevate a Downturned Nasal Tip: This problem may result from many causes. Dr. Hovsepian will carefully assess whether an approach focused on refining the nasal bridge, rotating the nasal tip, or enhancing both areas will yield the best results.

Dr. Hovsepian recognizes the importance of minimally-invasive techniques in nose surgery, and is dedicated to creating results that look natural and retain ethnic appearance.

Ethnic Nose Surgery (Ethnic Rhinoplasty)

Before your procedure, Dr. Hovsepian and his aesthetic team will meet with you to make sure you understand your procedure and recovery thoroughly. They will answer all questions you may have. Comfort, safety, privacy, and excellence in treatment with trusting compassionate care is the assurance of Dr. Hovsepian and his team.

Prior to coming into the Beverly Hills or Newport Beach surgery center, you will need to begin fasting 8 hours prior to your procedure, which means you cannot eat or drink anything at all during this period, including chewing gum or drinking water. If you have been instructed by Dr. Hovsepian to take any medications in the morning, this is permitted with a few sips of water.

Ethnic nose surgery is performed under general anesthesia which means you will be asleep and feel nothing during surgery. The surgery is an outpatient procedure, but some patients prefer an overnight stay. Out-of-town patients may stay in a near-by hotel or aftercare facility. The surgery itself generally takes a few hours, although you should expect to spend extra time in the operating room if your procedure will focus on multiple areas. Upon completion, you will return to your home, hotel or
aftercare facility conveniently located a short distance from the surgical center.
