Lower Eyelid Surgery in Los Angeles | Beverly Hills

The eyes are one of our most important features; they are the first thing we look at in the mirror everyday. The eyes are the focus of attention during conversation and are one of our primary tools for conveying emotion. They can also convey a general sense of health, vigor, and alertness. Wrinkles, bags and dark circles under the eyes make you look older and fatigued. Lower eyelid surgery restores a smooth, youthful energetic appearance.

Cosmetic correction of the lower eyelid region, or lower blepharoplasty, restores a smooth, natural contour to the area beneath the eyes by correcting puffiness and bags, resulting in a more youthful appearance. Lower eyelid surgery may also improve a pronounced tear trough — a depression running from the inner corner of the eyes to the cheek. The midface can also be improved with a cheek lift or mid-facelift which can be performed for patients with malar bags or drooping of the midface.

Dr. Hovsepian uses specialized techniques to correct the lower eyelid, including removing excess fat (if present) or repositioning of fat to avoid a hollow appearance. In order to maintain the natural shape of the eyelids, lower lid support may be required. This is performed by tightening the lower lid muscle and the corner of the lid with a canthopexy or canthoplasty.

Using his artistic talent and surgical skills to restore a more energetic, youthful, and natural appearance, Dr. Hovsepian recognizes the importance of minimizing incisions and utilizes the "short scar" and other minimally-invasive techniques. He emphasizes the importance of a comfortable and caring patient experience with a rapid healing process. If you have been instructed by Dr. Hovsepian to take any medications in the morning, this is permitted with a few sips of water.

Lower eyelid surgery is performed under general anesthesia which means you will be asleep and feel nothing during surgery. The surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure, but some patients prefer an overnight stay. Out-of-town patients may stay in a near-by hotel or aftercare facility, where a "private duty" nurse is available. The surgery generally takes a few hours, although expect to spend extra time in the operating room if your procedure will focus on multiple areas. Afterward, you will return to your home, hotel or aftercare facility conveniently located a short distance from the surgical center.
